Foster carer Mick talks about his experiences with Shared Care
Hi my name is Mick, When I’m not dialysing I am a full time award winning foster carer with my wife Michelle.
I have been on haemodialysis since April 2018 after watching the nurses dialyse me for 3 months I decided it was time for me to have a go myself.
With the guidance of the nursing staff I was able to dialyse myself within 3 months, I now feel a lot better health wise and have a better understanding of my condition.
I consider myself as part of the team treating my illness.
My conversations with the rest of the team are a lot more productive.
I would recommend shared care to anyone on haemodialysis.
Get involved at whatever level you feel comfortable, you have nothing to lose by having a go, you have a fantastic team supporting you!
